note to self: when you already have a cough with your congestion, do not take mucinex d. seriously. it will result in a death cough that causes you to eat very little and feel like you've done 1000 sit-ups. just go with this:

perfect thursday night: visit to a local brewery, bettacheddabaconbuger & shoestring fries for dinner, and "helping" mtb bottle his homebrew (by helping i mean we came in at the end and put a few caps on).

today i had first-aid training for my job. the same job i've had since the start of october. but at least now i have been officially told how to scrape a bee-sting away, how to deal with a bloody nose or knocked out tooth, how to address allergic reactions and epi-pens, and of course, how to administer the heimlich maneuver on creepy child-sized mannequins:

i love you. most especially when you come in the shape of an egg, tree, heart, or {insert seasonal shape here}. in fact, i love you so much that i'm going to have to give you up for lent. but this beauty will be my easter reward...

a stolen moment of childhood delight in the midst of a long, grown-up day...or, more realistically, a quick mid-day sugar rush to get me through an evening class.

words: the traveling red dress
last year, i decided to choose joy. that one decision made a huge difference in my life. even for someone who has always been optimistic, there are times when it is easier to wallow in sadness or anger. don't get me wrong - sadness and anger are completely valid emotions, and they should never be ignored, or suppressed, or brushed aside. but when i was done acknowledging that i was sad, or mad, or just plain fed up with things...that was when i found it was time to choose joy. to seek out the things that make me smile just a little, or belly laugh, or even better, feel so full of delight i'm not sure you can handle it. to seize the beauty that is present in everyday life and cherish it, even if just for a brief moment. so many lovely things last year grew out of my decision to choose joy, and i hope it is something i will remember to do for the rest of my life.
choosing joy means different things for different people, and for some, that joy comes in the form of a traveling red dress. it's a story i think you might appreciate. no one tells it better than the original author, so today i'm sending you to one of my favorite blogs for you to learn of the magic yourself. {note: be warned that if you read other posts besides the red dress ones, she is hilariously inappropriate most of the time, and sometimes deeply personal.}
