quilting, part 2.

once all the rows were sewn, it was time to pin right sides together and sew the rows into one giant panel.

sewing rows to rows.

front panel, complete!

pinned the batting to the front panel.

then sewed it on.

windows down, music up.

one of my very favorite past-times is being in the car, in warm (even mild is fine) weather, with the windows down and the music cranked up.  the minute i'm settled in and singing along, i can feel the tension melt away and life is just better.

but here's the thing. i look around, and no one else has their windows down. not even cracked. i don't understand this. in snow, in rain, sure! keep those windows up and the water out. but lately the weather has been wonderful and maybe these folk aren't in office buildings all day, so they don't crave fresh air quite the same way, but still. i rarely, if ever, see another window down. is everyone is afraid of the world outside?

i guess that just means more sunshine for me...

diy: knit infinity scarf.

nothing super special about how i made this scarf...a regular knit stitch, with a lot of oops moments in the form of accidental extra stitches (while gorgeous and soft, the yarn had a tendency to split) and compensatory condensing stitches. the problem with those oops moments was the wonky shape that resulted...so to fix it, i turned it into an infinity scarf, with some very unprofessional weaving together of the ends. i'm just really glad it's done (i'm trying this new thing where i finish the projects sitting around my place before i start another, and this one has been hanging over my head ever since i found last summer while it going through my craft supplies). i'm all set for california's next cold snap...ha!

red dressed.

adventures in self-timer photography... i wanted a good shot (read: better than a picture of me standing in a mirror, holding my iphone) of the lovely, comfy dress my fella's parents gifted me at christmas. what better background than a concrete stairwell, right? (and yes. i do actually know how ridiculous this picture is.)

blogging voice.

real bloggers (the ones with frequent posts and actual topics and more followers than fingers) often talk about finding their blogging voice, and how it took a while. i've had a blog for years now, but i still haven't ever felt like i found my "voice". lately, i've begun to think that perhaps that is because i've been trying too hard to find something to say. maybe this space was never meant to be a post-regularly kind of blog. and maybe that's okay, because after all, i'm really only sharing for myself and the three people who read this with any kind of regularity.  maybe this space is better as it was originally... a home for images, and occasionally for words. a place where i can come to remind myself of the beauty and magic in the everyday, every day. a place to rejuvenate after long days of this.

so. all that to say, it might get a little bit more quiet around here, but hopefully also a lot more honest and sincere.

abeautifulmess selfies: 1-2

the ladies over at abeautifulmess started a 30-day self-portait challenge last month.  that seemed like a fun idea, but i also wanted a photo-challenge that made me think a little harder than just aiming the camera at my own face.  with the help of a daily idea list from pinterest, i started clicking away... looking forward to the result of the two mixed together! i'm using the abeautifulmess app to edit and label the pictures - all together, it should make for an interesting addition to my 2013 photobook.

sending sun.

"how can i make your day better?" i asked. "make it sunny," he replied.

i may not have power over the natural elements, but you do what you can to bring joy to those you love. so, with a little help from technology, i sent him sun. a little bit every hour or so, to carry him through a long, wintery monday. and if you don't think a quote from the kimkierkegaardashian twitter feed is sunny, well then - it's a good thing i have him and he has me.

p.s. there was follow-up today. pretty sure my e-efforts were instrumental in producing real life results. right? right ;)

nurture love.

we've got this gift of love,
but love is like a precious plant.
you can't just accept it and
leave it in the cupboard
or just think it's going to get on by itself.
you've got to keep watering it.
you've got to really look after it and nurture it.
